Pageant-crazy Brazil is trying so hard to pattern its Miss World Brazil 2009 pageant to the format of Miss World of having fast-track events prior to the coronation.
There's nothing wrong about that. It only shows how much the Brazilians love the British beauty pageant that started in 1951 by Eric Morley. Afterall, Brazil is one of the beauty superpowers in the world.
Miss World Brazil started last Sunday, 28 June 2009, with 39 representatives from its 26 states, 12 islands and a representative from the Federal District. The winner who will be announced on Sunday, 5 July 2009, will represent Brazil in the Miss World 2009 pageant to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa and London in December later this year.
For the fast-track events, the candidates competed for the Miss Sports last Monday (29 June). Miss Ilha do Campeche, Anelise Laulau, won the award. She became the first Miss World Brazil 2009 candidate to advance to the sem-finals.
Miss Ilha de Santa Catarina, Elisa Hoeppers, took the silver, and Miss Fernando de Noronha, Raquel Peddoni, was the winner of the bronze medal.
Yesterday, (30 June), Miss Talent was competed by the candidates and the winner was the surprised Miss Pernambuco, Karine Barros. She became the second semi-finalist. Her runners-up were Misses Sergipe and Mato Grosso.
Today, the candidates will try their best to become the third semi-finalist by winning the title of Beach Beauty or equivalent to Best in Swimsuit. The event is not yet started as of the time of writing this.
On Thursday (2 July), the fast track that will be contested is the Best Model Brazil. The winner of the Beauty with a Purpose will be revealed on Friday (3 July).
Tamara Almeida, Miss World Brazil 2008 will crown her successor on Sunday. A tribute will be paid to Mariana Bridi, a former Miss World Brazil candidate whose death last January shocked the world.
