Miss Colombia Universe Natalia Navarro says NO to a nose job

09 February 2010

Miss Colombia Universe Natalia Navarro is being pressured by a controversial push by Colombian pageant fans to get a nose job. But the Barranquilla beauty queen doesn't like the proposal.

Reports reached us that more and more followers of the beauty pageant circuit in Colombia have joined to campaign for Navarro to go under the knife. These fans have called the 21-year old stunner's nose as "eagle beak".

Navarro has smartly declined. On the Colombian television show El Lavadero she said:

"Me han preguntado y entiendo que siempre puedo mejorar, pero a mí me gusta lo natural. Donde todas nos empecemos a operar vamos a quedar igualitas, con eso no estoy de acuerdo. Con esta nariz gané Señorita Colombia, así que seré capaz de cualquier cosa."

"They have asked me and I understand that I can always be better, but I prefer things that are natural. If we all start to get plastic surgery then we will all look the same and that I do have problems with. I won Miss Colombia with this nose and I am capable of doing anything just like this."

Wow, this is my first time to see a Latin beauty who declined to undergo a surgery just to enhance her chance in making the final cut of an international pageant. This is indeed shocking since Latin American countries have the reputation that any ladies who want to become beauty queens would be willingly undergo such operation at whatever cost just to fulfill their dreams of becoming a beauty title holders.

She is also being scrutinized by the public because of her constant use of colloquial "street" Spanish words.

Binibining Pilipinas 2010 Candidates in their Official Photographs

It's the first quarter of the year and it's the season of beauty pageants as most countries are busy with their national selections of their representatives to the four grandlsam pageants - Miss Universe, Miss Earth, Miss World and Miss International.

The Philippines, one of the pageant-crazy countries, has started its annual Binibining Pilipinas for 2010. The final selection of the 24 official candidates took place  last week of January. They were not presented to the media yet but activities like TV guestings and photoshoots have already started. The Talent competition where only 9 ladies had participated is finished also last week.

This time, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated, looks like serious in sending the right girl to the 3 known international competitions such as Misses Unvierse, World and International. I said so because there are some changes we have heard from the fans.

Philippines scored nil in Miss Universe this decade. No Miss Philippines made the cut. This is probably the reason why Stella Araneta, owner of the pageant and the other BPCI staffs are alarmed. They need to do miracle this time around or else they will face the anger of the Filipino fans.

For the first time in the history of Binibini, a pre-pageant is scheduled on February 28 where the candidates have to be judged in evening gowns and swimwears. The winners pf this activity will comprise the Top 10 in the finals where the winners will come from.

For our initial report on Binibining Pilipinas 2010, here are the 24 ladies in their official photos. Just click on the pictures for larger viewing.

The "identical" long gowns of Dayana Mendoza and Jennifer Barrientos, Miss Philippines Universe 2008

I was browsing video clips of Miss Universe 2008 in Vietnam when I took notice an odd similarity on the gowns of Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza, who eventually won the title, and Miss Philippines Jennifer Barrientos, who didn't make the semi-final.

I am expecting you will disagree with me since most of us are very critical when it comes to the dresses and wardrobes of any Miss Philippines titleholders. Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated (BPCI)has the reputation of providing mediocre or outdated long gowns to their girls. I still remember the comments of fans on Jennifer's gown during the pageant - the gown was a mess and 80-ish.

Miss Venezuela Organization, on the other hand, under the leadership of pageant guru, Osmel Sousa, is known with its stylish and fashion-forward long gowns. The organization gives their girls only the best wardrobes in the pageant.

So, you might probably think that comparing the gown of a Miss Philippines to a Miss Venezuela is an insult because it is like putting a diamond side by side with a stone. But try to see the video clips after the pictures.

This is the yellow gown of Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza.

This is the Alfredo Barraza gown of Miss Philippines, Jennifer Barrientos. It is very obvious, this gown is much inferior with that of Dayana.

Now look on their evening gown presentations during the preliminary competitions.

Here is Jennifer with her evening gown in motion.

Here is Dayana with her evening gown in motion.

So, what have you seen? The gowns are identical onstage except for the colors. The effects or the amount of lights on the stage could also be the reason. Jennifer carried the gown well. She had a fantastic presentation although the gown was a trash. But definitely, Dayana had a better performance in a better gown.

While Jennifer was trying to be regal and sophisticated in her moves, Dayana opted to be more fluid with her flirty walks. She was like dancing the way she swayed her hips and her shoulders. She also gave emphasis on the slits of her gowns with her twirl and the position of her legs when she paused.

The problem on the thighs of Stefania Fernandez, Miss Universe 2009

The latest picture of Miss Universe 2009 Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela, together with Miss USA 2009 Kirsten Dalton and Miss Teen USA 2009 Stormi Henley, in her swimsuit is baffling some pageant fans.

These fans are referring to the thighs of Stefania which are showing serious discolorations. If you have seen these photos and tried comparing her legs with those of the two American beauties, Stefania's thighs have really a different tone or texture. Refer to the pictures and see it for yourselves.

One would think that if these photos are official pictures released by the Miss Universe Organization, they would have cleaned her legs with the aid of a photoshop. Or is there really something serious in Stefania's thighs that even the magic of photoshop can no longer do something?

Someone suggested that probably her skin texture is so fine and thin that we already see flesh. She's thin skinned and the veins are showing through.

Another fan added that probably the lighting in the photographs only made it worse. He claimed he had seen a picture of the 6th Miss Universe winner from Venezuela during the 2009 Miss Universe pageant in Bahamas with the same discolorations on her legs.

This will remain a mystery but one thing is for sure, the thighs of Miss Universe 2009 are weird.

Miss Universe 2010 contestants arrive in Venezuela

06 February 2010

Miss Universe 2010 will come in your television either in May as it is done traditionally or in September if the rumor is true. But as early as now, 3 delegates who will be competing with each other from 3 Latin American countries have convened in one event in Venezuela. This gathering paved way a chance for the beauty pageant fans around the world to compare the delegates from Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Mexico.

Miss Universe 2009 1st runner-up, Ada Aimee de la Cruz, joined these 3 ladies.

Venezuela will be represented by Marelisa Gibson while Ximena Navarette and Mariana Vicente will be Mexico's and Puerto Rico's representatives respectively.

Now that these 3 ladies are standing side-by-side with each other, we are now opened for more points of comparison. Who do you think is the most beautiful of them all?

I pick Marelisa Gibson and Ximena Navarette of Venezuela and Mexico. I personally believe they are more queenly and poised in these pictures. Facially, these two ladies are also better than Miss Puerto Rico and even Ada of Dominican Republic.

Talking about Ada, why is she wearing her Miss Dominican Republic World crown when she is with Miss Universe contestants? I am referring at the first picture. Have you noticed that?

Would you choose Miss Earth over Miss World?

I am sure you would pick Miss World over Miss Earth if you are asked to choose between the two.

It won't surprise me. Afterall, Miss World is the oldest among all the 4 grandslam pageants while Miss Earth is only celebrating its 10th year anniversary. Julia Morley's pageant has been broadcasted in most parts of the world while Carousel's can only been seen in Philippine television.

Miss World attracts more participating countries every year of around 100 beauties but Miss Earth is catching up with 80 plus girls. Most beauty pageant fans believe Miss World has more beautiful participants than Miss Earth every year. But personally, I believe this is not true especially if we compare the ladies who competed last year in both pageants. Miss Earth had more quality contestants than Miss World. In fact, Miss Earth produced the most competitive and most stunning girls in the Top 5 of any international pageants last year.

If most of us will choose Miss World, Vietnam did the exact opposite over the question on which of the two pageants they will keep to host. The Province of Khan Khao dropped Miss World 2010 but they kept Miss Earth 2010.

This is definitely a blow on Julia's face but a sure victory for the lesser Miss Earth. I can't imagine what Julia might be thinking now but I am sure the Carousel staffs are grinning from ears to ears.

I can only think of one valid reason why Miss Earth was favored. Hosting this pageant is lot cheaper than the USD 10 million Vietnam will be needing to bring Miss World.

With this, I personally believe Khan Khoa just did the most practical thing to do. The Vietnamese government can still market their tourism with Miss Earth with a lesser budget than spend 10 million without a guarantee they can get this back.

So, kudos to Vietnam for the wise decision.
