Miss World Philippines 2013 attracted only 31 applicants

Twenty-six candidates vying for the Miss World Philippines 2013 crown are presented to the media at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Pasay City on Wednesday, July 31. The winner will join 119 candidates from other countries at the coronation night in Indonesia in August for the Miss World 2013 pageant.

The outgoing Miss World Philippines is Queneerich Rehman who was Top 8 during the Miss World 2012 pageant in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China.

According to some reports from bloggers who have monitored the screenings, only 31 ladies applied to be part of this pageant. So if there are 26 official candidates, that means that only 5 ladies were turned down.

Why is there a very low turn out of applicants for this year's Miss World Philippines considering that PhP 1 million is at stake? Is Miss World not really a popular pageant in a country that adores pageant that much? I think Julia Morley, the owner of Miss World, should do something to make her pageant be loved by the greatest pageant fans on earth.
