Miss Earth Ghana 2013 contestants embark on environmental awareness projects


The Miss Earth Ghana 2013 Contestants have over the last few months embarked on several environmental projects including sanitation, tree planting and environmental education and advocacy programmes across the country.

The contestants visited communities and sensitized them on how to clean their environments, and practically demonstrated this by helping to sweep and clean the areas.

At various schools in the Eastern, Ashanti, Northern and Greater Accra Regions, they engaged the students in environmental discussions and sessions and also took them through tree-planting exercises.

They visited markets and the beaches including the La Pleasure beach where they carried out a cleanup exercise.

The winner of this year’s Miss Earth beauty Pageant will get a cash award of GHC 5,000, another GHC 5,000 worth of sponsors goods and products, an official car, official wardrobe and will represent Ghana at the Miss Earth International pageant.

The first runner up will get cash prize and products worth GHC 3,000, a Home theatre, an official wardrobe and participation in an international event. 
The 2nd and 3rd Runner up will get GHC 1,500 and GHC 1,000 respectively among other consolation prizes.

There will also be special awards for Project, Eloquence, Poise and Attitude, Congeniality, Walk, Face, National Costume and Group Project work.

During her reign, Miss Earth Ghana will embark on a tour of schools nationwide to deliver sessions on the environmental; would plant up to 1,000 trees at selected locations and engage in organized clean up exercises at selected communities.

According to organizers, the main objective of the pageant is to have contestants and winners actively involved in the promotion and protection of the environment and the conservation of Mother Earth.

The grand finale of this year’s event comes off at the national Theatre on July 12, 2013.
