Lucy Whitehouse Wins Miss Wales 2009

The new Miss Wales for 2009 is a 21-year-old nurse from Barry. Lucy Whitehouse beat 70 other competitors to take the title at the Cardiff International Arena. She will go on to represent Wales at the 2009 Miss World pageant in London and Johannesburg, South Africa in December.

The blonde nurse who works at Barry Hospital was born in Cardiff but now lives in Barry.

"I had no idea I would win, there were so many more amazing girls there than me here." Lucy exclaimed in an interview.

Lucy added: “In my spare time I enjoy socialising, going to the gym, promotional work, horse riding and spending time with the people I love.

“My main ambition in life is to qualify as a district nurse and be successful in everything I do.

“The competition has given me the opportunity to raise money for a wonderful cause, meet new people and have fun.”

The pageant raised more than £115,000 for children’s charity The Joshua Foundation.

The pageant was attended by the current Miss World winner from Russia. Ksenia Sukhinova was the VIP guests during the finals.

Meanwhile, the Mr Wales title was won by Mark Tancock, 24, from Swansea. Click here for some of Mark's photos.
