The participation of Guatemala to Miss Universe 2013 pageant in Moscow, Russia is in danger! Yes, you've read it right.
The scheduled final of Miss Universe Guatemala 2013 on July 6th was cancelled without prior notice which shocked the supporters and fans of this pageant. According to the organizers, because of logistical issues and lack of support from sponsors, the pageant has to be postponed indefinitely. But the organizers promised that they will do everything to hold the pageant this year though they can't give an exact date when it is going to happen.
But 3 days before the cancellation, the preliminary competition was still held.
This is indeed not a very good news. I hope the the organizers could find a sponsor immediately so that the pageant will push through. But considering the number of placements of Guatemala in its 42 years of participation at Miss Universe pageant, it is really not surprising to learn that sponsors are not coming easily for the organizers. They only made the semis thrice - in 1955 with Maria del Rosario Molina Chacon who was at Top 15, 1984 with Ilma Urrutia who finished at Top 10 and lately in 2010 with Jessica Scheel who finished at Top 10.
Guatemala won two special awards, the Miss Congeniality in 2012 with Laura Godoy and Best in National Costume in 1975 with Emy Elivia Abascal.
In 2010, I was mesmerized by the beauty of Jessica Scheel and I really wanted her to be at least a runner up that year. The moment her face was flashed on the screen, she already caught my attention and interest for Guatemalan beauty queens. So if this years' Miss Guatemala will not push through, it will really break my heart.
