Photos of the early delegates to the Miss U in Bahamas

Lots of girls representing different countries are already in Bahamas for the Miss Universe 2009 pageant but there seems to be a problem with the coverage. Few pictures on the arrival of each delegates are sprouting in the net. In fact the pictures I am posting in this post are the only ones they are in a group.

In the pictures, we can see Misses Egypt, Malaysia, Thailand, South Africa, Paraguay, Bolivia, Csezk Republic, Serbia, Montonegro, Iceland, France, Peru, Panama and Guam.

Hope to see more of them in the coming days.

Fickle beauty pageant winner loses her crown

The winner, then not: Newly-crowned Miss Malaysia Model of the World 2009 Wong waving to the crowd after she was announced as the winner in Ipoh on Sunday night. However, she later decided to give up her title.

A fickle beauty queen who gave up her title for “health reasons” found out the hard way that there’s no going back. When she changed her mind and decided to keep the crown, the event organiser told her that she had lost it for good.

Fashion designer Melissa Wong had beaten 25 other girls to be crowned Miss Malaysia Model of the World 2009 on Sunday night.

Then, the 22-year-old shocked everyone by deciding to give up her title and the chance to represent Malaysia in the 21st Miss Model of the World in China from Nov 2 to 23.

Wong requested to swap titles with first runner-up Madelyne Nandu from Sabah. The organisers agreed.

During a press conference to announce the swap at 10am yesterday, Wong again caused a stir by saying she had changed her mind once more, and wished to remain the winner and go to China.

She believed she was strong enough to make the trip.

The shocked organisers had to stop the press conference to consult with her.

Later, when the press conference resumed, Wong said she had undergone spinal surgery several years ago and had initially thought she would not be able to withstand the cold weather in China.

“I thought that I had been well but then my spine has started to hurt again in recent days,” she said when grilled by reporters on why she had not thought of it before joining the contest.

Despite her assurances, the organisers put their foot down and declared Nandu the winner and Wong as the first runner-up.

Choong May Teng, director of contest producer Star Avenue Production, said everyone had stayed up till 4am to settle the matter.

“She must be fair to everyone,” said Choong.

Choong said Wong had not been totally honest with officials from the start, and that they could have stripped her of the title instead of letting her be the first runner-up.

Model Eleen Yong, 22, from Malacca was second runner-up in the contest, which was presented by Marigold HL Milk.

Beauty a champ of poor children

Let's here from one of Malaysia's most beautiful representative to Miss World. Deborah Priya Henry.

FOR former Miss Malaysia World Deborah Henry, charity is not just about dropping change into a collection tin once in a while, it’s about making sure you make a difference.

The stunning lass who hails from Kuala Lumpur was in Penang recently to promote World Vision Malaysia’s 3,000 Children in 3 Months campaign.

“When I was younger, my parents always sponsored kids. We first had one in the Philippines and then one in Ecuador.

“I sponsored one of my own in 2006 and when I won Miss Malaysia (in 2007),” she said in an interview during her visit to Penang.

The former beauty pageant queen currently has three sponsored children — a boy each in India and Cambodia and a girl in China.

“In the 3,000 Children in 3 Months campaign, our goal is to register new sponsors for 3,000 children by the end of March.

“One of the most frequently asked questions is — does the child get the RM50 I pledge every month?

“World Vision understands that to help a child, you have to help the parents and the community. This is the most sustainable way to break the cycle of poverty.

“Instead of giving a child money, which will either be wasted on toys or be spent by the parents, World Vision builds a hospital that will give that child health care.

“They also build schools and train teachers which will enable that child to get an education,” shed added.

With the multi-pronged approach, she said, communities as a whole were lifted out of poverty and parents ended up earning up to five times their initial income after World Vision started area development programmes in their villages.

“The sponsorship also makes things very personal. It’s nice to get letters from the children saying how they are doing in school and telling me about their grades and hobbies.

“Sometimes you get Chinese New Year and Christmas cards and through all this, you know you’re making a difference to that child’s life.

“It’s easy to throw RM5 into a bucket and say ‘I’ve done my part’ but we need to take it to the next level when it comes to responsible giving and making sure that the people you want to help get that help,” Henry added.

With signs suggesting that the worse of the global economic slowdown is yet to come, Henry reminded the public that this meant more dire times for children in impoverished nations as well.

“It’s RM50 a month which comes up to RM600 a year so a lot of people can generally afford it. However, things are going to be hard and charities like World Vision are definitely not immune,” she said.

On her personal plans for the future, she said she was thinking about creating her own charity organisation one day.

“In the long term, I hope to start a business of my own, possibly in retail.

“I will definitely continue doing social work in my own way and maybe even start something myself,” she said.

Asked whether she had any plans of having children herself, she laughed and replied: “Let’s think about get married first.”

“Being the second of four kids, I’ve grown up with lots of babies and I’d love to have kids.

“For a few years, I’ve been thinking a lot about adopting a child as well.

“I’ve always had a great interest and felt very strongly about the situation in Africa so I’d like to adopt a baby from there one day,” she said.

Miss Malaysia is a Lesbian? Mexico is her "Boyfriend"?

Miss Universe in Vietnam has been over for almost two months now but this fact will not prevent me from touching an "issue" about the Malaysian representative, Levy Li Su Lin. I was tipped off something about her and I did some research over the net since I don't know her personally. I also don't know someone who is related to the beauty queen so I had to rely only on the world wide web.

Luckily, I discovered her blog and got some interesting and funny accounts from this lady.

I will be writing this blog entry as if I am interviewing Levy but please bear in my mind that I'm just doing this for you to appreciate it better.I will formulate my questions based on the different ideas she shared in her blog.

Okay but before we proceed with that I would like to explain first why I said Malaysia had some "issues". Yes, someone just whispered to me that Levy has the tendency to utter inappropriate words. That statement did not come from me but I am just relaying this to you, my readers.

This is the reason why I did a research like what I have told you a while ago. As we go along, I will point out the things that gave my tipper the idea about this issue.

Let's start.
  • From June 20, 2008 post: Hi there again. Finally i m able to post directly to this blog thru my phone. Therefore, now i can do frequent short updates.. :) i wish i could post more than one pic on each post tho but it wont allow me to:(so there is just a lil camwhore pic of me in my hotel room on the 2nd night.. More pics coming up.cheerios

  • From June 20, 2008 post: Just finished my last minute packing with 2 HUGE ASS luggages and 1 hand carry for 1 whole month belongings.

  • From a June 24 , 2008 post: [[Camwhore pics of me with the cute hat]] NOTE: Then she continued posting her pictures with Miss Mexico

  • From a June 24 , 2008 post:I also showed off my professional skill of camwhoring using the mirror reflection in our dressing room. LOL.

Those are the words from Miss Malaysia's blog which triggered by mole to think something about her. If we just see the words she used alone, we really can come up with a conclusion that Levy is someone who uses vulgar words, a trait not to be adapted by any beauty queens who are aspiring to be a model.

But by reading most of her blog entries, I can say Levy is actually sweet but she has a very strong personality. Sometimes we understand being strong as being vulgar or bitch!

Okay, let's go with my "interview":

WHO IS YOUR BEST FRIEND DURING THE PAGEANT?

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: "I would say all the girls ere are utmost friendly and nice which makes everyone of em my bestfriend :) Cliche' as it seems but this statement genuinely comes from my heart. It is surprisingly not even like what you imagine about the behind stories of beauty queens of having "bitch fights", attitude problems, backstabbing, yadda yadda.. So far, I don't see anything like that here and I love hanging out with each and every girls ere cos each of em have very different and unique personality which amazes me in many ways. Most of us have similar characteristics and the best part is all of us are ather outgoing & love havin FUN! Yea.. So now I have an additional of 80 hottie girls as my bestfrens just in 1 month time. The benefit of being a Miss Malaysia Universe huh?! Envy me! :p Before I go off for the rehearsal, there goes some walkthrough pics of me & some of the hotties!" (June 24 entry)

ARE YOU SURE ALL THE OTHER 80 BEAUTIES ARE YOUR FRIENDS?

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: "So far i think i hav only met 70% of em and everyone is havin a tough time remembering each other's name and country.I m coping up real fast tho and its very interesting to learn bout diff cultures and languages especially when i hav been mixin alot wit the south americans, latinos and pacific Island girls.Anyway i bet tonight is gonna be a grand and fun night.Lookin forward to it with excitement:) Will try to capture great pics tonight using my hp. Stay put.. " (June 20 entry)

WHO IS YOUR ROOMMATE AND WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT HER?

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: Yes. The title above says it all. The beautiful lass next to me is Simran the Miss India Universe 2008 and how nice to hav her as my roommate for this whole pageant in Vietnam. (June 20 entry)

DURING YOUR NATIONAL COSTUME PRESENTATION, THERE WERE TEN LADIES VOTED BY THE JUDGES AS TOP 10 BEST IN NATIONAL COSTUME, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW THEY WERE SELECTED?

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: We are all divided into 9 groups according to the alphabetical order of our country names and from each group, the judges would choose only 1 winner which means there will be 9 winners for this particular traditional costume competition parade. However there were an exclusive extra winner which is Miss Vietnam as she was easily the crowd favourite. Congrats babe! U deserve ut :) Anyway for my group, Miss Mexico was the winner *triple cheers* Her costume is an amazing piece! Just look at the pic below. She is the one smacked right in the middle and I am just next to her. I feel soOo tiny... (June 24 entry)

HAVE YOU LEARNT WORDS IN OTHER LANGUAGES FROM YOUR CO-CANDIDATES?

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: *TE DUA* (I LOVE YOU in Albanian language.Courtesy of miss kosova & miss albania) I ve learned it in many diff languages.probably in each of my post i will state one*wink out* (June 20 entry)

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: *TE AMOR MUCHOS* (I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH in spanish.Courtesy of all the beautiful Spanish Queens I met ere.Amazingly sweet n frenly girls) (June 23 entry)

BEFORE WE ASK YOU AN INTRIGUING QUESTION, DO YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES YOU WANT TO ADDRESS TO YOUR FELLOW MALAYSIANS?

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: p/s:I do hope that we Malaysians could stand as one, love our country, the ppl,the culture and be very SUPPORTIVE because I realised that ppl from other nations are very patriotic and proud to support their own nation delegates instead of giving critics and I am totally impressed with that. I guess it is just like wise men says "always love yourself before loving others". It applies ere as well, doesnt it?:) Thanks once again for the support and encouragement along the way. HUGS N KISSES. (June 23 entry)

WE ARE GETTING CLOSER TO OUR INTRIGUING QUESTION. BUT BEFORE THAT, PLEASE HAVE THIS TIME TO THANK YOUR SUPPORTERS.

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: Thanks everyone for showering me with overflowing encouragement and supportive words. I do appreciate all of your positive energy. Although it is gonna be tough but I will try my best to make Malaysia proud and to put a smile on all of ur faces. I also wanna thank all of my uni mates, lecturers and dean for being very supportive and blessed me with approval for the leave application. Sorry if along the way , I do cause any inconvenience. Thanks for being very understanding & considerate. Thank You once again everyone. (June 20 entry)

WE ARE GOING TO DROP THE BOMB NOW, ARE YOU READY?

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: *Mysterious?* (Her caption to one of her photos in a June 24 entry)

WE HAVE LEARNED THAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY A LESBIAN. IS THIS TRUE?

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: And let me introduce my so called "boyfriend" ELISA MISS MEXICO. She stand 6 feet 1 in height. The perfect height to be my darling. I heart her muchos. I look like a midget standing next to her but it make me feel secure. hehe. She is undeniable a sweetheart.. (June 24 entry)

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: The picture says it all. Pic taken at the charity auction event. Sweet & loving pair aite? She definitely pass to be my darling boyfriend =D (June 24 entry)

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. I CAN NO LONGER STAND THIS!

MISS MALAYSIA LEVY LI: .........and not forgetting a pic with my darling Elisa Miss Mexico again. This time she is sitting down which made me feel slightly better by not looking so tiny beside her :) (June 24 entry)

NOTE: The interview part is purposely written in that format to add humour on the write up. The supposed questions are just an imagination but the "answers" from Miss Malaysia are REAL.
