Miss Japan Emiri Miyasaka's Atrocious National Costume will be ALTERED!

We have a latest news coming from Japan and I guess this is a good news especially for the Japanese who were disappointed and disrespected by the atrocious national costume of Miss Japan Universe 2009 Emiri Miyasaka showing a little flesh or looking like a porn star.

Bloomberg reported that IBG Japan, which operates the local Miss Universe contest, is making an adjustment with the costume. The decision came after the black kimono outfit Emiri had chosen was criticized as too revealing.

“Considering the opinions we got from many supporters and other people concerned, we decided to make the hemline of the costume longer," IBG Japan posted yesterday in their website.

Our blog, Beauty in Pageants, reported first this which was picked up by other blogs, forums and sites.

On the other hand, we have heard from a source that Emiri will be arriving in Bahamas tomorrow (Bahamas time), August 1st, via United Airlines. This is in contrast with what Ines Ligron, director of Miss Japan Universe, had bragged about in her blog.

Ines mentioned in her blog that Emiri will be flying from Miami to Bahamas with a private helicopter. We'll know the real score tomorrow.

  1. osaka093As Japanese women and a fashion lover, the porny costume is the worse thing I've ever seen. The issue is deep and complexed.
The reason why it makes many Japanese get raged and disappointed are on vulgar costume design, designer's plagiarism, misunderstanding of japanese culture, strong opposition to Ines Ligron's beauty standard,Insincere attitude of MUJ office for criticism.

    ----------------
    1. The costume is designed to catch viewer's eyes on pink underwear. It's simply vulgar.

    2. Designer,Yoshiyuki Ogata, hemmed the Kimono. which is the MOST important part which express a wear 's mind and seasonal beauty.

    3. Mr.Ogata, commited plagiarism on the costume from A 2008 Christian Dior Couture Calendar.

    4. He did not design costumes of Miss Japan 06&07. However, he used a word "collaborated"and it mislead many people.

    5. About the costume, more than 6000 angry people posted comments on Ogata's blog. More than 90 percent is criticism. But, he haven't explained enough and keep ignoring to the comments.

    6. Craftsmen in Kimono industry are disappointed that the horrible costume are introduced under the name of KImono.

    7. We japanese know there's many misunderstanding of our culture abroad. One of them is "Geisha" is a prostitute, But, this is wrong. But this costume promote misunderstanding.

    8. Ms. Miyasaka mentioned she likes the costume on interview, so Kimono fan and the elderly criticized she doesn't know the japanese culture.

    9. Few people agree with Ines Ligron's idea of beauty. Most think she's a destroyer of our culture.

    10. Japanese dose not regard Ines Ligron as "the woman who is responsible in turning Japanese girls into modern sophisticated women."

    11. Ines has keep deleting critical comments on her blog.

I'm a designer and one of them who is very disappointed for this issue. I hope this information is helpful for Beauty In Pageants to understand the problems. To be honest, many japanese don't expect a lot by altering design because Yoshiyuki Ogata is a horrible designer.

    Sincerely,

  2. I think Ines should be fired...

She forced "underwear audition" to the finalists of Miss Japan and let girls do performance like a stripper.

You can see Emiri sitting on a male model's lap in underwear from URL below.

I am also disappointed with Emiri who would do anything to win the contest.

She does not have any shame and probably brain.

Japanese women are not shameless like her. We may be quiet but have strong will and can say no to such a vulgar costume.

  4. Kuh Chara-
You're welcome. Sorry for my bad English.

The matter is related with tradition, misunderstanding culture, plagiarism, designer and IBG's insulting reaction to criticism, and so on.

Thus, the national costume of Mss Japan is still controversial in japan.
Even after IBG made the decision to change the hemline, 82.25% of people says "No".

  6. That costume is so trashy and terrible. As one blogger said, it looks like it was made for a hentai film rather than a beauty pageant. I don't even know why someone would agree to wear that thing.

  7. Hello,
regarding Hiro's comment 7: 7. We japanese know there's many misunderstanding of our culture abroad. One of them is "Geisha" is a prostitute, But, this is wrong. But this costume promote misunderstanding.

Could you explain a little in detail, what I misunderstand? Is a Geisha not a person have sex with multiple persons, who are not married to her, in exchange of some kind of benefit to her, whether or not the benefit is cash?

How is that kind of person different from a prostitute?

    I don't understand.

  9. The author of beautyinpageants.blogspot.com has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: Whenever trouble arises, there is always one idividual who realizes a solution, then rises from obscurity to take command, ushering in a new era. Very often, that individual is utterly insane. Thanks for the info.
